Traditional technique – jiigoku-gumi

This somewhat unusual architectural design that comes in the shape of a bamboo basket, is located in a residential area in Tokyo´s, Minami-Aoyama. It houses Sunny Hills, a shop specializing in pineapple cakes, particularly popular in Taiwan. The structure was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, using the traditional technique, jiigoku-gumi, consisting of woven lattice timber, a material with a life cycle of over twenty years. Not that long if you´re used to European building customs, nevertheless, here it is quite the average time for a building. Like it?
Have a great weekend everyone!

Blue skies

Days have come to feel considerably longer as we have had quite a few lovely days with blue skies and sunshine. Shop windows are already adorned with pastels and you get the feeling that spring is on its way. Inspired by the various pastel colours, I created this freestyle ikebana arrangement with just an orchid and carnations. Simple and effective, don´t you think?
